Ruth Hughes and Sam Chandler successfully appear for HMRC in Ingenious and Icebreaker litigation
Ruth Hughes and Sam Chandler have successfully appeared for HMRC in two extremely high profile and high value tax avoidance cases.
The Tribunal has handed down decisions this week in both the Ingenious litigation in which Ruth and Sam both appeared involving many well-known investors and films which are household names including Avatar, Shaun of the Dead, Life of Pi and Die Hard 4. Ruth conducted some of the cross-examination in the case including in relation to the conclusion of the contracts with 20th Century Fox on Avatar, Life of Pi and Night at the Museum.
Sam also appeared in Acornwood part of the Icebreaker litigation which has become known as Take That v The Tax Man.
The value to the Government has been estimated at over £1bn in the two schemes.
