5 Stone Buildings is the nicest and most approachable set of chambers. It has fantastic barristers at all levels and are always flexible and accommodating.
Hugh joined 5 Stone Buildings as a tenant in October 2024, after completing pupillage in chambers under the supervision of Ruth Hughes, Sam Chandler, Oliver Marre, William East and Alexander Drapkin.
During pupillage, Hugh assisted on a wide range of cases, including claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, probate claims, equitable proprietary claims such as those under ToLATA and in proprietary estoppel, Court of Protection proceedings and trusts litigation (both on and offshore). Hugh further assisted in non-contentious matters, such as the construction of wills and trust deeds and the taxation of trusts. Hugh welcomes instructions in all of chambers’ practice areas.
Hugh has a first-class undergraduate degree, a master’s degree and a doctorate in Classical Archaeology from the University of Oxford, where his studies were supported by several academic prizes and scholarships. Before coming to the bar, he taught archaeology at leading UK universities. Hugh obtained distinctions on the GDL at City, University of London, where he was the winner of the GDL Moot, and on the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, where he came top of his year overall and received the Civil Advocacy prize.
